One Small Step Built on the Next

My favorite fragrance is in the air. We’re just wrapping up the lilac season. It was a little late this year, but what beauty after the high of the orchard blooms. I bask in them while they last and carry them from room to room. The scent is intoxicating with so many varieties in color, white, pink, orchid, lavender and the deep french purple. Like the orchard blossoms, they fade quickly.

My team just got back from a whirlwind lilac photoshoot on Mackinac Island. We stopped for biscuits and gravy breakfast at Darrow’s (my favorite) and hopped the ferry to the island for just a few hours. I’ve never seen the straights so calm in my life. What fun to capture the beauty of it all! We even filmed some lilacs planted in the late 1770s.

I’m enamored with the idea that they are flowers made of smaller flowers. That’s how some of the best things in life come to life. It’s one small step built on the next. I’ve been taking a lot of steps lately and it’s starting to feel like giant leaps. My website is just about ready for you! Like everything, it took longer than I expected, but I’m thrilled to share my recent work with you and make it available for purchase. Shipping is tricky for my original artworks, so contact me and we’ll work that part out together.

I’ve been following the flow and letting things unfold into one of the most productive and inspiring seasons of my life. I’m not pushing it, but a lot came to fruition quickly with three shows in a row, the new book, and all the commercial opportunities that sprung from them. It’s been exciting and full of learning, but now it’s time for me to collect all that learning and make sure I don’t forget.

Your response to me, my story, and my art is the lingering fragrance of all this experience. I’m so blown away by how art affects us all–your deep feels, generosity, and the kindness you’ve shared with me. You inspire me to use art to capture more, more of what this life has to offer, more of our collective experience. I have so much to explore with you.

I’m looking at new palettes for the summer and what I might work on for next year. I know ideas don’t always work out, but I’ve got a good feeling about these. Time to explore and take advantage of the sunshine and this growing season. We’ll grow together.
